Massive fire destroys tent and catering shop in P&T-Kotra

  • Goods worth Rs 10–12 lakh lost in blaze

Bhopal: A major fire broke out early Friday morning at a tent and catering shop near Aradhana Square in the P&T-Kotra area. The fire, which is believed to have started due to a short circuit, engulfed the shop around 7:00 AM and was brought under control by 9:30 AM—after nearly two and a half hours of firefighting.

The shop, owned by Lalla Prem Dwivedi, contained a large quantity of combustible materials such as quilts, mattresses, curtains, and catering equipment. The presence of gas cylinders further increased the risk, but firefighters managed to prevent any explosions or further escalation.

Passersby noticed smoke billowing from the shop and promptly alerted the fire control room. In response, three fire engines from the Mata Mandir and Pul Bogda fire stations were dispatched to the scene.

Fire spread rapidly due to highly flammable materials

With coordinated efforts, the teams managed to control the blaze before it could spread to nearby structures.

Local resident Sonu Suryavanshi, who witnessed the incident, said the fire spread rapidly due to the highly flammable materials stored inside. Despite efforts, the entire stock in the shop was destroyed.

The estimated loss is reported to be between Rs 10 and Rs 12 lakh. No casualties have been reported.
