March 31 rally will be against authoritarian regime of PM Modi: Congress

New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The Indian National Congress on Friday said that the March 31st rally at the Ramlila ground here will be the second major rally by the INDIA Alliance and meant to demonstrate ‘solidarity against the authoritarian regime of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is hell bent on decimating all opposition parties’.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, General Secretary in-charge communication Jairam Ramesh said, “This will be a political rally and the main objective of the rally is to highlight the threats to democracy by the actions of the BJP. The determined actions of the Prime Minister who ensures that we are one nation and no election”.

He alleged that the PM’s action clearly shows that there could not be a free election and the Election Commission did not even meet the INDIA Alliance group on the issue of 100% VVPATS .

The Rajya Sabha MP said, “Now they have unleashed tax terrorism against the Congress and few other Opposition parties by reopening tax records going back to 34 years, and making completely unjustified and unreasonable demands while allowing the BJP to go scot-free by the same yardstick and ofcourse indulging in the horrendous scam of Electoral Bonds that has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.”

He said that the March 31st rally will be the second major rally of the INDIA alliance after the culmination of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on March 17 at Shivaji Park, Mumbai in which leaders of all the INDIA group participate and he hoped that the Sunday rally at the Ramlila ground be a similar such occasion.

Ramesh further added that the Delhi Police has granted permission to the rally on Thursday evening.
