New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) As the voting began for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged the voters to vote in large numbers, saying “every vote counts, make your count too.”
In a social media post on X, said, “I urge all those who are voting in the 6th phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to vote in large numbers. Every vote counts, make your count too! Democracy thrives when its people are engaged and active in the electoral process. I especially urge women voters and youth voters to vote in large numbers.”
In this phase, the voting will take place in six states and two Union territories. All 7 seats in Delhi and all 10 seats in Haryana will participate in this phase.
The states and union territories voting in Phase 6 of the Lok Sabha elections include Bihar (8 seats), Haryana (all 10 seats), Jammu and Kashmir (one seat), Jharkhand (4 seats), Delhi (all 7 seats), Odisha (6 seats), Uttar Pradesh (14 seats), and West Bengal (8 seats).
According to the Elections Commission, as many as 889 candidates are in the fray.
The political fate of prominent leaders, including senior BJP leaders Dharmendra Pradhan, Maneka Gandhi, Manohar Lal Khattar, Sambit Patra, Bansuri Swaraj, and Manoj Tiwari and Congress leaders Deepender Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja, Raj Babbar, and Kanhaiya Kumar, as well as Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, will be decided in this phase.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also urged the voters, especially those from the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency, to “choose a leadership that is capable of fulfilling the resolution of a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.”
“I urge the voters of the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency of Jammu and Kashmir, who are going to vote in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, to choose a candidate who has a vision to develop the valley as a centre of employment, infrastructure, cultural development, and tourism. Choose a leadership that is capable of fulfilling the resolution of a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir,” he wrote on X.
In this phase, polling will also be conducted in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency. Last month, the Election Commission of India (ECI) revised the polling date in the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat from May 7 to May 25 due to logistical, communication, and natural barriers related to connectivity.
BJP National President JP Nadda also appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise in large numbers to elect a government that fulfills the guarantees of Viksit Bharat.
“As we enter the sixth phase of the #LokSabha2024 elections, I urge all registered voters, especially the youth, to cast their votes in record numbers. Exercise your right to vote to elect a government that guarantees the fulfillment of the envisioned ‘Viksit Bharat’ and functions with the policy of ‘development for all, appeasement for none,” he said on X.
