Lok Sabha passes Advocates (Amendment) Bill 2023

New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Parliament on Monday passed Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023 that makes touting punishable and allows judges to publish a list of touts.

The legislation aims to amend the Advocates Act, 1961, said Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal who moved the Bill in the Lok Sabha. IT was passed by the Rajya Sabha earlier.

Replying to the discussion on the bill in Lok Sabha, Meghwal said, “We will repeal colonial laws which don’t have relevance in the present time.”

Participating in the discussion on the bill, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “We understand the proceedings of the Court when we have to go to court for any case. Touts consider us as scapegoat to loot us.”

The Winter session of Parliament began on Monday. The Lok Sabha was adjourned shortly after it convened for the day following ruckus raised by the opposition parties. The House, however, later conducted the proceedings of the day.
