Lucknow, (UNI) In a dazzling exhibition of cricketing prowess, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) soared to the summit of the IPL 2024 table with a resounding 98-run triumph over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium here on Sunday.
Sunil Narine’s explosive innings once again underscored his influence in the IPL as he propelled KKR to a commanding total of 235 for six against Lucknow.
The spectators witnessed a masterclass in power-hitting as the West Indian maestro dismantled the opposition’s bowling attack with a breathtaking display of stroke play.
Narine’s blistering knock of 81 runs off just 38 balls laid the foundation for KKR’s imposing total, characterised by audacious stroke-making and an unyielding assault on the bowlers.
From the outset, Narine showcased his aggressive intent, dispatching the ball to the boundary with remarkable ease. Despite surviving two dropped catches, Narine maintained his onslaught, punishing the bowlers with disdain.
Partnering with Phil Salt (32), Narine orchestrated a rapid 61-run partnership, setting the stage for KKR’s formidable total. Even after Salt’s departure, Narine continued his onslaught, reaching his fifty off just 27 deliveries and accelerating the innings with aplomb.
Despite occasional resistance from the Lucknow bowlers, Narine remained undeterred, unleashing a barrage of boundaries and sixes to propel KKR to a commanding position. His fiery innings eventually came to an end when Ravi Bishnoi dismissed him, but not before he had left an indelible mark on the match.
KKR’s momentum was further bolstered by valuable contributions from Ramandeep Singh, whose unbeaten 25 off 6 balls provided the finishing touches to an imposing total.
In pursuit of the daunting target, LSG’s openers, led by KL Rahul, showed early promise but faltered in the face of KKR’s disciplined bowling attack. Despite a valiant effort from Marcus Stoinis (36 off 21 balls), LSG struggled to keep pace with the required run rate as wickets fell at regular intervals.
KKR’s bowlers, spearheaded by Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana, capitalised on the pressure, claiming three wickets each to restrict LSG to 137 and secure a comprehensive victory.
With this commanding win, KKR reaffirmed their status as serious contenders in IPL 2024, propelled by Narine’s explosive brilliance and a clinical performance from their bowling unit.
