Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 16 (UNI) The Kerala Home Department has directed that the guidelines issued in accordance with the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding the use of firecrackers and related explosives during Diwali celebrations must be strictly adhered to.
The directive states that only green category firecrackers will be permitted for use. The bursting of crackers should be restricted to a period of two hours — from 8 pm to 10 pm.
The department emphasized that these restrictions are based on environmental considerations and are intended to control air and noise pollution during the festival.
Authorities concerned have been instructed to ensure that the guidelines are strictly implemented at the local level. Officials are also required to verify that only approved categories of firecrackers are sold and used, and to take strict action in case of any violations.
The Home Department further reminded the public that compliance with these directives is essential for ensuring public safety and promoting an eco-friendly and responsible Diwali celebration.
