Kerala CM writes to Amit Shah over assault on Malayali students in Delhi

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 3 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sought the intervention of union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged assault of two Malayali students by police in New Delhi, demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident.

The students, I.D. Ashwanth and K. Sudhin, both studying at Zakir Husain Delhi College, were allegedly forced by the police to speak in Hindi and then subjected to a brutal attack.

Expressing “deep distress” over the matter, the Chief Minister said that if the allegations are found to be true, strict action must be taken against the erring officials.

“Students from different parts of the country pursue higher studies in various states. Their language and culture must be respected. Reports of such grave misconduct by police officers are extremely disturbing,” Vijayan wrote in his letter.

He added that law-enforcement agencies are duty-bound to protect citizens from harassment and antisocial elements. “If the police themselves indulge in such behaviour, it will only encourage others to target students and migrant workers,” he cautioned.

The Chief Minister urged Shah to ensure a fair, impartial, and time-bound probe into the incident, took place on September 24, 2025.
