India must boost exports, cut imports to become global leader: Nitin Gadkari

Nagpur, Aug 10 (UNI) Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said India must increase exports and reduce imports to become self-reliant and take a leading role globally. because the countries exerting dominance or bullying are able to do so because they possess economic strength and advanced technology.

“If our export and economic growth rates improve, I don’t think we will need to rely on anyone,” he said while speaking at the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) yesterday.

He said that even after acquiring better technology and resources, India will not bully any country because ”our culture teaches us that the welfare of the world is most important.” He said that countries facing global challenges can find solutions through science and technology.

He asserted that if India aspires to become a ‘Vishwaguru’(Global Leader), increasing exports while cutting down on imports is essential. He urged research institutions, IITs, and engineering colleges to orient their research toward the nation’s needs and also highlighted that research in all fields remains equally valuable.
