- Research at AIIMS Bhopal
Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal is making significant strides in innovative research that directly benefits patients. A recent study published in a prestigious international medical journal presents encouraging findings for individuals suffering from acute anal fissure (AF), a painful condition often necessitating invasive procedures. This research was conducted collaboratively by Medical Officers of AYUSH (Homoeopathy) and the Faculty of Surgery at AIIMS Bhopal, with Dr. Ashish Kumar Dixit (AYUSH – Homoeopathy) and Dr. Moorat Singh Yadav (General Surgery) serving as lead investigators.
Pain levels decreased by nearly 99%
The study involved 34 patients diagnosed with acute anal fissure, who were administered Paeonia officinalis orally for three months, alongside dietary advice. The results were highly promising; pain levels decreased by nearly 99%, dropping from an average score of 9/10 to almost 0. Straining during defecation was eliminated, and participants reported a significant improvement in their overall quality of life. Remarkably, by the end of the three-month period, 88% of patients (30 out of 34) achieved complete healing of their fissures without any serious side effects.
The investigators concluded that Paeonia officinalis may play a supportive role in alleviating pain, easing bowel movements, and promoting healing in cases of acute anal fissure. They emphasized the need for further controlled studies to validate these findings, highlighting the potential for collaborative efforts between Homoeopathy and Surgery to explore safe, non-invasive treatment options for painful conditions like anal fissures.
