Bhopal: The Bhopal District Congress Committee on Friday staged a strong protest outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, condemning his alleged derogatory remarks against senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. The demonstration was led by district Congress president Praveen Saxena.
In a symbolic act, Congress workers performed a ritual purification of a life-size effigy of the minister, featuring a two-foot-long tongue, with Ganga water. Party leaders said this was to “cleanse” his speech, which they described as consistently disrespectful. “A minister is meant to serve the people, not to insult sacred relationships, especially during Navratri,” the district committee declared.
The protest saw significant participation of women, who expressed anger over what they called an affront to daughters and sisters on such a holy occasion.
Prominent leaders present included Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress president Vibha Patel, state Congress general secretary Sanjeev Saxena, Manoj Shukla, Amit Sharma, Asif Zaki, municipal opposition leader Shabista Zaki, district Mahila Congress president Santosh Kansana, Youth Congress acting president Abhishek Sharma, and state spokesperson Abhinav Baroliya, along with several councillors, block presidents, and hundreds of Congress workers.
