Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav has announced that the state government is committed to enhancing the economic progress of farmers and livestock producers by boosting milk production in Madhya Pradesh. A strategy is underway to integrate 50 percent of the state’s villages into the milk network. This initiative includes the formation of 381 new milk cooperatives, which have successfully linked 9,500 milk producers to the cooperative dairy system.
During a discussion with senior officials from the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department at the Chief Minister’s residence, Dr. Yadav emphasized the importance of this initiative. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah has instructed the government to amend the Dairy Development Scheme for Madhya Pradesh to make it more beneficial for stakeholders. Currently, efforts are focused on covering 72 percent of the state’s potential milk production capacity and increasing market reach by 15 percent.
CM receives updates on various initiatives
Dr. Yadav received updates on various initiatives, including enhancing milk collection, improving dairy animal breeds, developing model farms for indigenous breeds with support from the National Dairy Development Board, promoting the Sanchi brand, establishing a Heifer Rearing Center under the Bhopal Milk Union, ensuring timely payments to milk producers, and advancing digitization efforts. He provided necessary directives to the officials regarding these initiatives.
In a positive development for farmers, it was reported that milk unions in the state have raised the price of milk from two and a half rupees to six rupees per liter. This increase has not only boosted milk collection but also heightened the interest of farmers and milk producers. Notably, significant increases in milk collection have been observed in the Jabalpur and Gwalior milk unions, which have each received working capital of two crore rupees to facilitate the pending payments to milk producers.
