Bhopal: Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal (A Regional Centre of National Museum of Natural History, New Delhi) organized Visit to Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal for the participants of Summer Nature Study Programmes (Green Cub & Green Teen) on 8 June; to study about behaviour of animals & birds including their ecosystem services.
Dr. Sangeeta Rajgir and Mohd.Khalique from Bhopal Birds NGO, were the experts of the programme. Mohd. Khalique interacted with the participants and explained the behaviour of wild animals and their role in nature, and encouraged them to actively contribute to conservation efforts.
During this study visit children spotted many birds including grey heron, weaver bird, bronze winged jacana, red vented bulbul, white throated kingfisher, indian peafowl, pond heron, purple sunbird, black bittern, night heron, common cuckoo, black winged stilt, magpie robin etc. They also closely observed and understood the bird calls, nesting activities, feeding habits, and tendency to live in flocks. Similarly, participants identified the animals like wild boar, spotted deer, crocodile and observed their social behaviour of animals such as moving in groups, communicating through signals and displaying alarm calls when felt in danger. Discussions were also held on the ecological importance of these animals and the need for their conservation.
