Congress hits out at BJP over soybean procurement

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: The Congress has accused the BJP government of neglecting farmers grappling with crop losses due to excessive rainfall, yellow mosaic disease, and natural calamities. Party spokesperson Rahul Raj said while farmers are waiting for timely procurement of soybean, the state government appears indifferent.

He pointed out that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s statement—“procurement will happen if the state sends a proposal”—raises questions over Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s seriousness on the issue. Agriculture Minister Aindal Singh Kansana has also remained absent from the debate, he added.

Rahul Raj alleged that just like last year, the government has failed to act in time. Farmers had demanded ₹6,000 per quintal in 2024, but procurement was approved only after protests. This year, with September ending, no decision has been taken despite a support price of ₹5,328. Congress claims farmers deserve at least ₹7,000.

The spokesperson also highlighted irregularities in crop insurance, fertiliser shortages, and delayed relief. “The BJP has pushed farmers to repeated struggles instead of solutions,” he said.
