Congress accuses BJP of ‘Double Standard’ on OBC Reservation

Bhopal: The issue of 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Madhya Pradesh has ignited a fresh political feud, with Congress leader and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath accusing the BJP government of a conspiracy against the community.

In a statement, Nath claimed that his government had implemented 27% OBC reservation in 2019, but the current BJP administration later revoked it. He alleged that the BJP has maintained a contradictory stance for six years, publicly supporting the reservation while privately opposing it in legal and policy forums.

Nath’s remarks come as the Supreme Court prepares for the final hearing on the matter. He noted that the government’s recent all-party meeting had pledged support for the reservation, a move backed by the opposition. However, he now alleges that the government is preparing to abandon its promise during the court proceedings.

Warning the BJP against any betrayal, Nath declared that if the government fails to secure the reservation for 13% of held posts and new recruitments, it will prove a “conspiracy” against the OBC community. He vowed that Congress would lead a large-scale protest, reaffirming the party’s commitment to implementing the 27% reservation.
