Bhopal: A head constable on night patrol in the Intkhedi police station area has tragically died, more than two weeks after being struck by a speeding container truck. Govind Patel, 59, a respected member of the police force, succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital late last night.
The incident occurred on the night of July 16-17. Head Constable Patel was on his motorcycle, conducting his routine patrol, when a speeding container traveling from Parwaliya towards Sukhiseniya bypass collided with his bike near the Lambakheda overbridge. The force of the impact was immense, and Patel was left with critical injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where he fought for his life for an extended period. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, his condition worsened, and he passed away during treatment.
Intkhedi police had acted swiftly following the accident. The container driver was arrested and the vehicle was impounded shortly after the incident. While the suspect is in custody, the loss of a dedicated officer has cast a pall over the department. A full investigation into the hit-and-run is underway.
