New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) As directed by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Madhya Pradesh Government has provided a compensation of Rs 50,000 to a 5-year-old student who was subjected to inhumane treatment by a teacher and an attendant at a private school in Rewa.
The NHRC said in a statement that the incident came to light following the NHRC’s intervention after the Commission took suo-motu cognizance of the case on January 23, 2025.
According to reports from district authorities, the young student was forced by an attendant to wash his soiled clothes and wear them again, leading to both physical and mental distress. The poor treatment, which took place in front of the entire class, reportedly left the child unwell and traumatized.
In response to the NHRC’s notices, the Madhya Pradesh Government informed that the erring attendant’s services had been terminated and the class teacher was suspended for six months.
The district authorities also confirmed that an FIR had been lodged under Section 238 of the BNS and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Investigations are ongoing, noted the NHRC.
The rights body, after reviewing the case, observed that the child had suffered both physical and emotional harm due to the actions of the accused.
