Farmers to become energy providers: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced that Madhya Pradesh farmers will soon become energy providers under the Suryamitra Krishi Feeder Yojana, marking a major step toward clean energy and economic empowerment. Speaking at the Energy Summit, Dr. Yadav said the scheme will allow farmers and small investors to generate solar power and sell it to the government, thus contributing to India’s net zero emission goals.

Over 16,000 agricultural pumps have already been solarized, and projects with a 240 MW capacity are in progress. The initiative, an expansion of the PM KUSUM-C scheme, will solarize 8,000 dedicated agricultural feeders supplying power to 35 lakh pumps.

Farmers can install solar panels on barren land and benefit from 25-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), fixed tariffs, and affordable land. Additionally, they’ll receive a 3% interest subsidy under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund.

The scheme will ensure 8 hours of reliable daytime electricity, reducing farmers’ dependence on night supply and supporting their productivity.

Highlighting recent industrial progress, Dr. Yadav noted that investment proposals worth Rs 30.77 lakh crore were received at the Global Investors Summit, potentially creating 21.4 lakh jobs—boosting both clean energy and employment in the state.
