INDIAN COAST GUARD INAUGURATES NEW DEDICATED JETTY AT VIZHINJAM HARBOUR, KERALA

New Delhi, 07 Jun 2025: In a significant move to bolster India’s coastal surveillance and maritime operational capabilities, DG Paramesh Sivamani, AVSM, PTM, TM, Director General, Indian Coast Guard, inaugurated a new dedicated jetty at Vizhinjam Harbour, Kerala today.

The state-of-the-art jetty features a 76.7metre berth designed to accommodate Indian Coast Guard (ICG) vessels, enhancing rapid deployment and operational turnaround of ships. Strategically located just 10 nautical miles from major international shipping lanes and adjacent to the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport, the facility represents a key infrastructure upgrade for maritime security along India’s southwestern coastline.

DG Paramesh Sivamani emphasised the jetty’s strategic significance: “This facility marks a major step forward in strengthening our coastal security architecture and ensuring faster response capabilities in the region. It will play a vital role in safeguarding our maritime interests.”

The jetty will significantly augment the ICG’s mission effectiveness in maritime surveillance, search and rescue (SAR) operations, anti-smuggling patrols, and fisheries protection. The dedicated infrastructure enables faster mobilization during emergencies, wider area coverage, and improved coordination with multiple maritime and security agencies.

The event was held in the presence of Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), and was graced by dignitaries from Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL), Government of Kerala, Kerala Maritime Board, State Police, Port Authorities, Indian Army, Adani Ports Pvt. Ltd., Fisheries Department, and several other key stakeholders.

The establishment of this jetty marks a significant milestone in the Indian Coast Guard’s continued efforts to safeguard India’s vast and strategically important coastline.
