50 per cent tariff on Indian goods is punitive: PHDCCI

New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) The government of India has formulated a comprehensive multi-dimensional strategic framework designed to mitigate adverse economic impacts while strengthening the nation’s export competitiveness in the wake of a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, says a PHDCCI official.

Hemant Jain, president, PHDCCI, said, “ In response to the implementation of Trump’s punitive 50% tariffs on Indian goods effective August 27,2025 , the government of India has formulated and deployed a comprehensive multi-dimensional strategic framework designed to mitigate adverse economic impacts while strengthening the nation’s export competitiveness.”

He also pointed out that the strategic initiatives are designed to provide enhanced access to affordable credit facilities, facilitate improved market penetration opportunities, and create a buffer mechanism to insulate Indian exporters from the deleterious effects of the tariff regime.
