- Tragedy occurred on Rakshabandhan; electricity dept had not shifted line even after complaint
Bhopal: In a heartbreaking incident, a young man named Subhash Sen, aged 20, tragically lost his life after coming into contact with a high tension line while visiting his sister in Gandhi Nagar Pratap Ward of Bhopal to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. Subhash, originally from Noorganj in Raisen district, had been living with his maternal uncle in Narela Shankari for the past two years and worked in a local salon.
On the evening of the incident, Subhash arrived at his sister’s home around 7:30 PM. After his sister, Nidhi, tied a Rakhi on his wrist, he briefly stepped out onto the terrace to spit gutkha. Unfortunately, the high tension line, which runs dangerously close to the property, electrocuted him, resulting in severe burns. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
This incident is particularly tragic as it echoes a previous accident involving Nidhi herself, who was electrocuted at the same location eight months prior. Following her incident, a complaint was lodged with the CM Helpline on January 13, 2025, prompting the electricity department to assess the situation. However, despite the family’s willingness to bear the costs of relocating the line, no action was taken, leading to the devastating loss of Subhash’s life.
A mechanic had also lost his life
Local residents have expressed concern, recalling another fatal incident involving a mechanic who also lost his life due to the same high tension line. They highlight the ongoing danger posed by the line, which remains unaddressed by the authorities.
The police are currently investigating the matter, with TI Brijendra Merscole stating that a case has been registered, and further actions will be determined based on the investigation’s findings. Nidhi, reflecting on the tragedy, shared her disbelief that her brother, whom she had just celebrated with, would die in the same home where she narrowly escaped a similar fate.
