- Public outrage erupts; Electricity department blamed for negligence
Bhopal: A heartbreaking incident shook Shahjahanabad on Monday afternoon as Ayesha, a young girl, died after receiving a fatal electric shock from a live pole. The tragedy sparked anger among locals, who held the electricity department responsible for negligence.
Ayesha, daughter of Sajid Khan, had stepped out to play near Umar Shadi Hall Wali Gali around 2:30 p.m. Stagnant rainwater surrounded a damaged electric pole. As she unknowingly touched it, she was electrocuted and remained stuck for over a minute. Two youths bravely used a shovel handle to separate her from the pole, but it was too late. She was rushed to Hamidia Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Just four years old, Ayesha had recently been enrolled in nursery and was set to start school on July 1. Her father had joyfully bought her a new school bag and books over the weekend—dreams now cruelly cut short.
Locals alleged the pole had become electrified due to exposed wires and waterlogging, demanding accountability. Police and MLA Atif Aqeel reached the scene as protests flared.
Ayesha’s father, an auto driver already struggling financially, is devastated. Authorities have launched an investigation. ACP Anil Bajpai confirmed a post-mortem is underway, and legal action is being considered.
