WPL: Lizelle’s 67 powers Delhi Capitals to win over UP Warriorz

Navi Mumbai, (UNI) Lizelle Lee delivered a match-defining performance as Delhi Capitals Women registered a comfortable seven-wicket victory over UP Warriorz Women in the seventh match of the Women’s Premier League 2026 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy here on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 155, Delhi rode on Lee’s authoritative 67 off 44 balls to reach 158 for three in 20 overs. The South African opener’s innings, laced with eight fours and three sixes, ensured the chase never drifted off course and firmly tilted the contest in Delhi’s favour.

Lee set the tone early, combining aggression with smart shot selection. She added a crucial 94-run opening partnership with Shafali Verma, who contributed a steady 36 off 32 balls. The stand, put together in just 11.3 overs, effectively deflated UP bowling plans and reduced the pressure on the middle order.

After Verma was dismissed at 94 for one, Lee continued to dominate the bowling, rotating the strike efficiently and finding boundaries whenever the field eased. Her dismissal at 114 for two, caught after a fluent knock, still left Delhi well placed, needing only 41 runs from 32 balls.

Laura Wolvaardt played a composed supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 25 off 24 balls, while captain Jemimah Rodrigues added a brisk 21 off 14 deliveries to keep the momentum intact. Marizanne Kapp finished the chase with a boundary as Delhi crossed the target with seven wickets in hand.

Earlier, Delhi justified their decision to bowl first by restricting UP to 154 for eight in 20 overs. The UP innings lacked a strong finishing push, as wickets at regular intervals prevented them from capitalising in the death overs.

Delhi’s bowlers maintained discipline, keeping the scoring in check and forcing UP into rebuilding phases. The total, though competitive on paper, proved insufficient once Lee took control of the chase.

With this win, Delhi continued their strong start to the tournament, while Lizelle’s commanding knock stood out as the defining performance of the match, underlining her importance at the top of the order.
