Dhaka, Oct 21 (UNI) In a pulsating contest at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, West Indies edged past Bangladesh in a thrilling Super Over after both teams finished the second ODI of the West Indies tour of Bangladesh, tied at 213 runs apiece on tonight.
The Super Over delivered a nail-biting climax. West Indies batted first, posting 10 for 1, with Shai Hope hitting a boundary off the final ball to set the tone.
Bangladesh response, led by Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan against Akeal Hosein, was tense from the start, marked by early wides, no-balls, and singles.
The drama peaked when Sarkar was caught by Khary Pierre, leaving Bangladesh needing five runs off the final three deliveries.
In a spectacular finish, Saif Hassan struck a low slog past short third man for a single, sealing a thrilling Super Over for West Indies.
The main 50-over innings had already set the stage for the thrilling finish. Batting first, Bangladesh posted 213 for 7. Soumya Sarkar top-scored with 45, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 32.
The latter stages of the innings showcased aggressive stroke play, with Rishad Hossain (39 not out) taking centre stage through multiple sixes and towering boundaries over mid-wicket and cow corner. Nurul Hasan (23) also contributed with a six and vital boundaries, keeping the scoring brisk.
However, timely wickets by Akeal Hosein (2/41), Gudakesh Motie (3/65), and Alick Athanaze (2/14) – including the dismissals of Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Shanto, Mahidul Islam Ankon, and Nasum Ahmed, ensured West Indies remained in contention. A dropped catch of Miraz by Brandon King added to the drama, but Bangladesh managed to post a competitive total.
Chasing the target, West Indies produced an equally enthralling innings, finishing 213 for 9. Shai Hope anchored the innings with 53 not out, while Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves contributed 28 and 26 respectively.
The innings featured breathtaking shots from Roston Chase, Athanaze, and Hope, who punished loose deliveries with boundaries and sixes. Crucial wickets, including those of Brandon King (0), Keacy Carty (35), Ackeem Auguste (17), Motie (15), and Roston Chase (5), kept the contest alive, while fielding brilliance and key dismissals from Rishad Hossain maintained the tension.
This result means, the series is leveled 1-1 with one more match to go.
