Why was Op Sindoor suddenly stopped: Jairam asks PM

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the abrupt halt of Operation Sindoor, in light of revelations by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh that India had shot down at least five Pakistani aircraft.

“In view of the new revelations made by the Air Chief Marshal today, it becomes all the more shocking why the PM suddenly stopped Operation Sindoor,” Ramesh said.

“Where did the pressure on the PM come from, and why did he capitulate so very soon?” the Rajya Sabha MP asked.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi too questioned why Operation Sindoor was abruptly ended.

“The question remains what concessions did Prime Minister Modi extract from the Pakistani leadership before abruptly ending Operation Sindoor on the evening of May 10,” Gogoi said on X.

The IAF Chief earlier today said in Bengaluru that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Air Force (IAF) shot down six Pakistan Air Force aircraft — five fighter jets and one larger support aircraft.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed. The military operation saw India launch cross border strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. The two nations were engaged in a four-day military stand-off, which ended on May 10 with a ceasefire.
