Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh witnessed a weekend marred by devastating road accidents in Bhind and Panna districts, claiming the lives of seven individuals and leaving ten others battling severe injuries. The separate incidents, occurring late Sunday night, have cast a shadow of grief over the respective regions and ignited concerns about road safety.
Deadly head-on crash in Bhind
In Bhind, a high-speed head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle near Pidaura village on National Highway 719 resulted in the immediate deaths of four people. The victims on the motorcycle – Bihari Lal Baghel, his uncle Sujan Singh Baghel, and their cousin Rishikesh Baghel, all returning from a fruit distribution ceremony – were struck by a speeding car attempting to overtake another vehicle. The impact sent the car spiraling out of control and overturning. Mahmood, a passenger in the car, also perished at the scene, while the remaining five occupants sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the district hospital. Local legislator Narendra Singh Kushwaha, who happened to be passing by, played a crucial role in the swift rescue efforts. Police have launched a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of this horrific crash.
Grisly Panna road accident near hirapur
Meanwhile, a similarly tragic incident unfolded in Panna district on the Panna-Paharikheda road near Hirapur. A collision here claimed the lives of three individuals, including Siya Rani Ahirwar, the respected female Sarpanch of Brijpur Gram Panchayat. Kalibai, a woman Panch, and Baccha, another local resident, also died in the accident. Initial reports suggest that around eight people were traveling in the vehicle, with the remaining five sustaining injuries and requiring immediate hospitalization. The tragedy has plunged the Brijpur area into mourning, further highlighting the dangerous reputation that the Panna-Paharikheda road has unfortunately acquired due to frequent accidents. Authorities are expected to address the growing concerns regarding road safety on this perilous stretch. These weekend tragedies serve as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the critical need for responsible driving and safer road infrastructure across the state.
