Bhopal: In a move to balance the rapid pace of railway expansion with uncompromising standards, the West Central Railway (WCR) today launched a comprehensive Safety and Quality Checklist booklet for its Construction Department.
= New tool for quality assurance
General Manager Smt. Shobhana Bandopadhyay unveiled the “Safety and Quality Checklist (Construction)” booklet, acknowledging the challenge of maintaining standards while meeting India’s growing traffic needs. The booklet compiles essential safety and quality checks for various critical work items, serving as a ready-reckoner.
= Boosting awareness and oversight
The checklist is designed to curb the tendency to take shortcuts amidst the pressure for quick construction. It will be mandatory for field supervisors, inspecting officials, contractors, and their engineers to carry it on-site. The booklet consolidates rules from the Indian Railways Construction Manual and Railway Board directives, aiming to increase awareness and serve as a constant reminder to ensure safe and quality work.
WCR expressed confidence that this tool will help develop an ecosystem of safe and high-quality construction, urging field units to provide feedback for future revisions.
