Water sports complex to be developed in Khanugaon

Bhopal: Under the direction of Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh, a meeting of the District Wetland Committee was held on Wednesday, chaired by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ankur Meshram. During the meeting, a proposal was presented for the development of a national and international-level water sports complex in the Khanugaon area of Bhopal.

The meeting was attended by SDM Mr. Ravishankar Rai, Deputy Collector Mr. Lakhan Singh Chaudhary, City Planner of Bhopal Municipal Corporation Mr. Anoop Goyal, and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resources Department, Pollution Control Board, and other relevant departments.

Assistant Director of the Sports Department, Dr. Kshipra Srivastava, informed the committee that Bhopal is currently leading as the top contender in India to host the prestigious Asian Championship in 2026. To support this initiative and harness the potential for water sports in the Khanugaon area, a water sports complex has been proposed on approximately 1.5 acres of land.

As per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the complex will be constructed at a minimum distance of 50 meters from the Full Tank Level (FTL). The planned facility will include a gym, boat house, changing rooms, and administrative offices.

Importantly, the entire project will utilize prefabricated construction technology to ensure environmental sustainability. No permanent structures will be built, thereby minimizing ecological impact.
