Water crisis deepens in Solan as Giri Scheme remains shut for two days

Solan, Oct 21 (UNI) The Giri Lift Drinking Water Scheme, supplying water to Solan town and adjoining villages, has remained non-functional for the past two days, causing a severe drinking water crisis.

Several areas, including Saproon and Power House Road, have reportedly not received water for five to six days.

Residents alleged that neither the district administration, the municipal corporation, nor the Jal Shakti Department officials are taking the situation seriously. Frequent breakdowns, high silt levels in rivers, voltage fluctuations and motor failures are being cited as reasons for the disruption.

CPM District Secretary Anup Parashar said officials have ignored repeated complaints and accused them of running a “parallel government” from their offices. He warned that if the crisis continues, the party would protest against Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri during his next visit to Solan.

Local residents have also threatened to stage protests outside the office of the Jal Shakti Department’s Superintending Engineer if water supply is not restored soon.
