Watchman who serves cows: Gopal’s life of quiet devotion

Bhopal: In the bustling Ashoka Garden, a watchman at Narang Apartments quietly lives a life of extraordinary service. Gopal Singh Parihar, originally from Bajranggarh near Guna, is known not just for his job but as a devoted caretaker of cows. Growing up in a family where his grandfather, Amar Singh, owned 15–20 cows, Gopal Singh embraced the tradition of cow seva from childhood.

Thirty years ago, he moved to Bhopal in search of work. Today, after a long day as a watchman, he collects leftover vegetables, prepares them, and personally feeds and cares for street and domestic cows alike. His affectionate touch and patience draw even wandering cows into his home, where they receive care and return peacefully afterward.

Gopal Singh believes, “Cow service is not just a religion, it’s a blessing in life.” His dedication has earned him societal respect and personal well-being, demonstrating that service purifies both body and mind.

As Sushil Kumar Jain, President of the Environment Culture Conservation and Human Welfare Trust, notes, true service thrives in everyday actions. Gopal Singh Parihar’s life proves that devotion needs no stage—just compassion and unwavering commitment.
