Wanted criminal with Rs 25,000 bounty killed in police encounter in Meerut

Meerut, October 13 (UNI) A man wanted in multiple serious criminal cases was killed in a police encounter on Monday morning near the forest area of Sarurpur in Meerut. The accused, identified as Shahzad alias Nikki, had a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head and was involved in several offenses, including serious crimes against children.According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Vipin Tada, Shahzad was a resident of Bahsuma in Meerut district and had seven criminal cases registered against him. Recently, he was accused of a grave crime involving rape of a 7-year-old girl, who remains in critical condition. Prior to this, Shahzad had served a five-year prison sentence for a similar offense involving rape of a 5-year-old child.

After his release, he became involved in criminal activity again. On Sunday night, he reportedly went to the home of one of the victims in Bahsuma and fired shots outside the house, threatening the family and attempting to instill fear.

The encounter occurred during a routine police checking operation in the Sarurpur police station area early on Monday morning. Officers spotted a man on a motorcycle acting suspiciously. When asked to stop, the suspect attempted to flee and opened fire on the police. In the exchange of gunfire, Shahzad was injured. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, senior police officials, including SP Dehat Abhijeet Kumar and Circle Officer of Sardhana, reached the site with a heavy police force. Forensic teams also arrived at the scene to collect evidence. Shahzad’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.The police said the action was necessary due to the suspect’s continued threat to society and repeated involvement in heinous offenses.
