Waiting list candidates in limbo as portal blocks document upload

  • Teachers’ appointment crisis

Bhopal: Thousands of hopeful educators qualified in the 2022 Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for various subjects (Varg 1, 2, and 3) are facing an agonizing delay as the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) has halted the crucial document verification (DV) upload process on the Teacher Recruitment Council (TRC) portal. This systemic change has effectively stalled the permanent appointment of candidates on the waiting list.

The current recruitment drive, targeting approximately 10,758 posts in 2025, has left those next in line in despair. Previously, the uploaded DV would allow for swift appointments when a merit-listed candidate failed to join or a post became vacant. Now, with the option removed, waiting list candidates across the state fear their opportunity will vanish, replicating a year-long standstill observed in Varg 1 appointments.

The core of the problem stems from the DPI’s decision to discontinue the DV upload. When approached, the DPI Commissioner reportedly cited administrative burden, stating, “After uploading DV, you candidates repeatedly file RTIs and cause trouble. We will now only work on the waiting list after all merit candidates are appointed.”

Candidates, some of whom have spent years preparing, expressed deep frustration:

Candidate 1 (Rewa): “My percentile is over 80 with a level 2 waitlist of 1. With the DV upload stopped, I might lose the chance if a vacancy appears.”

Candidate 2 (Tikamgarh): “I was 21 when I started studying; now I’m 27. The 4-year-long process hasn’t concluded. The wait is agonizing.”

Candidate 3 (Betul): “I scored merits-equal marks after years of hard work, only to be stuck in a system that suddenly changes the rules and eliminates the DV upload option.”

Candidate 4: “Regarding this whole issue, I spoke to the Commissioner, and they said that after we allow the DV (Document Verification) upload, you people constantly bother us by filing RTIs. That is why we have stopped the DV upload. Now, we will only work on the waiting list after the merit-listed candidates have been appointed.”
