New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Vice President C P Radhakrishnan today set off on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Seychelles to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Patrick Herminie.
The visit, extended by the Government of Seychelles, highlights India’s dedication to deepening and broadening its strategic partnership with the island nation. During his stay, the Vice President will personally convey India’s congratulations to Dr. Herminie and reaffirm the enduring and robust ties shared between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that this visit reinforces India’s Vision MAHASAGAR initiative and underscores its broader commitment to strengthening relations within the Global South. India and Seychelles maintain a strong defense and development partnership, with India supporting critical infrastructure and capacity-building projects such as coastal surveillance and the coastal radar network, which bolster maritime security and regional stability.
The bilateral relationship received a significant boost following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark visit to Seychelles in March 2015, which resulted in key agreements to enhance maritime security. This visit, marking Vice President Radhakrishnan’s first international trip since taking office, is expected to further consolidate cooperation between India and Seychelles across security, development, and maritime domains.
