Mumbai, Nov 23 (UNI) The vote count for the Maharashtra Assembly polls began at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the Election Commission deploying 6000 teams to carry out the exercise.
An elaborate three-tier security ring has been put into place to ensure peace during the counting process for all the 288 constituencies which went to the hustings at one go on November 20.
The postal ballots are being counted initially, and the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be opened once the postal vote count is over.
Altogether 2324 counting tables have been set up in 288 counting centres, with each Assembly constituency put under the jurisdiction of a counting observer.
Earlier, the EVMs and postal ballots were carried to the counting centres at 6 a.m. under the watchful eyes of Election Commission officials, security personnel and representatives of the candidates.
The trends are likely to come from around 10 a.m, according to election officials.
The state has registered 66.05 percent polling overall, which was the highest since 1995.
