Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 29 (UNI) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the fifth session of the Loka Kerala Sabha, a biennial assembly bringing together members of Kerala’s global diaspora, at the Nishagandhi Auditorium here at 5 pm on Thursday.
More than 500 delegates are expected to participate from 125 countries and 28 Indian states, officials said.
The inaugural function will be presided over by Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly A N.Shamseer, while Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan will deliver the keynote address.
The three-day conference will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from January 29 to 31. While the inaugural public session will take place at the Nishagandhi Auditorium on January 29, the Loka Kerala Sabha sessions on January 30 and 31 will be held at the R. Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall in the Kerala Legislative Assembly complex.
The Loka Kerala Sabha provides a platform for expatriate Malayalis and other stakeholders to discuss developmental priorities and strengthen connections between Kerala and its diaspora. Past editions of the assembly have produced recommendations that have informed state policy initiatives.
Ministers K. Rajan, Roshy Augustine, K. Krishnankutty, A. K. Saseendran, Kadannappally Ramachandran, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, V. Sivankutty, and G. R. Anil will attend the event. Deputy Speaker Chittayam Gopakumar and Deputy Leader of the Opposition P. K. Kunhalikutty will also be present.
Members of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, John Brittas and A. A. Rahim, MLA V. K. Prasanth, Mayor V. V. Rajesh, Chief Secretary Dr A. Jayathilak, NORKA Roots Resident Vice-Chairman P. Sreeramakrishnan, Vice-Chairman M. A. Yusuff Ali, Directors Dr Ravi Pillai and Dr Azad Moopen, Kerala Pravasi Welfare Board Chairman Ghafoor P. Lillis, NORKA Secretary Anupama T. V., along with other senior officials and dignitaries, will participate.
