Washington, Dec 14 (UNI) The US military has transferred Travis Timmerman, an American citizen detained in Syria for several months, out of the country, the Hill reported Friday, citing defence officials.
Timmerman was released from a prison in Damascus earlier this week, the report said.
The US Central Command is cooperating with the State Department to guarantee his safe return home, it added, without providing details.
Timmerman, 29, disappeared in June when he was last seen in Budapest, Hungary.
He revealed that he was making a Christian pilgrimage to Lebanon and crossed the Syrian border, according to the report.
Syria’s armed opposition captured the capital of Damascus on December 8. Russian officials said that Bashar Assad, who ruled the country for 14 years, stepped down as president and left Syria for Russia, where he was granted asylum.
Mohammed al-Bashir, who ran an Idlib-based administration formed by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other opposition groups, was named interim prime minister on December 10.
He announced later that the interim government had been formed and would remain in place until March 2025.
