Lucknow, (UNI) A man and his wife were killed in a road accident late Sunday night on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway in the Kakori area of Lucknow.
Three other family members were injured, one of them seriously, and admitted to the KGMU Trauma Centre, police said today.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding container truck coming from the wrong side collided head-on with the car. The impact caused the car to overturn once and crash into the roadside barrier. The container driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.
Police seized the container and moved the damaged vehicles near the toll plaza.
The accident occurred about one kilometre before Rewari Toll Plaza while the victims were returning from Mathura after a religious visit.
The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Yadav, a manager at KTL, and his wife Urmila Yadav (40). Rajesh died on the spot, while Urmila died during treatment at the trauma centre.
According to Inspector Satish Chandra Rathore of Kakori police station, Rajendra Yadav (45), a resident of Gauri Vihar in Sarojini Nagar, was travelling with his wife Savita Yadav (40), their son Parth Yadav (12), and his friend Rajesh Yadav and Rajesh’s wife Urmila.
In the accident, Rajesh Yadav died on the spot while Urmila Yadav later died during treatment. Savita Yadav was seriously injured and Rajendra Yadav and his son Parth sustained minor injuries.
Rajendra Yadav is the General Secretary of the Sarojini Nagar Bar Association.
Police rushed the injured to Lokbandhu Hospital, from where the seriously injured were referred to the trauma centre for further treatment.
