Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is experiencing a diverse range of weather conditions as the monsoon season continues its unpredictable streak. While the capital city of Bhopal basked in sunshine, causing a rise in humidity, several other districts faced heavy downpours, leading to waterlogged roads and civic challenges.
Heavy rainfall was reported in areas like Ratlam, Tikamgarh, and parts of the state, with the downpour creating treacherous conditions for commuters due to potholes. In Khajuraho, the gates of the Ranguwan Dam were opened to maintain water levels below the 764-foot mark. Meanwhile, relentless rain in Betul’s Multai area led to homes being inundated.
Tragically, the weather has also claimed lives. In Mandsaur, two individuals were swept away when their pickup truck was submerged in the overflowing Chambal River. One person was rescued, but the other remains missing. In Ujjain, the Shipra river breached its banks, flooding temples at Ramghat.
Overall, the state has received an average of 43.2 inches of rainfall this monsoon, which is 7.4 inches above normal. Guna has recorded the highest rainfall at 65 inches, while Khargone has received the least. The contrasting weather patterns highlight the unpredictable nature of the current monsoon season.
