Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti has made a definitive political declaration, announcing her intention to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha elections from the Jhansi constituency. “I will only contest from Jhansi,” she stated at a press conference, adding that her primary interest lies in national-level politics. She clarified that she is not on the political sidelines and will certainly contest if the party directs her to do so.
Launching Gau Samvardhan Abhiyan
Beyond electoral politics, Ms. Bharti emphasized her commitment to “Gau (Cow) and Ganga,” calling them the “axis of Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India). She announced the launch of a massive Cow Conservation Campaign (Gau Samvardhan Abhiyan) on Gopashtami, October 29, which will run for a year and a half. The campaign aims to create new grazing lands (gochar), involve Gram Panchayats, and link farmers to the movement. She suggested the Ladli Behna scheme beneficiaries should be given two cows each.
One Nation, One Election Supported
Ms. Bharti further revealed that a Ganga cleaning drive will commence on November 4 in Prayagraj. Addressing the subject of leadership, she asserted that a politician should be “simple and easy-going,” contrasting it with the “cunning” required for mere posturing. She also expressed her support for the “One Nation, One Election” concept, believing it would prevent major government campaigns from being disrupted.
