Ukraine, Canada sign deal on joint defense production – Minister

Moscow, Aug 25 (UNI) Ukraine and Canada signed an agreement on Sunday that will allow them to expand defense industry cooperation and set up joint production, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

“Ukraine and Canada have agreed on joint defence production. The agreement is aimed at deepening bilateral defence-industrial cooperation, expanding and creating new production capacities in Ukraine and Canada, and enhancing resilience and continuity in the supply of defence products,” Shmyhal said on X.

The minister said that the agreement would simplify the establishment of Ukrainian companies in Canada and strengthen technology exchange.

Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine are hindering the peace process and getting NATO allies directly involved in the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
