New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will be on a two-day visit to India on October 8-9, in his first official visit to the country.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the visit, on October 9 in Mumbai, the two Prime Ministers will take stock of progress in diverse aspects of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in line with ‘Vision 2035’, a focussed and time bound 10-year Roadmap of programmes and initiatives in key pillars of trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education and people to people relations.
Both leaders will engage with businesses and industry leaders on opportunities presented by the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) as a central pillar of the future India–UK economic partnership. They will also exchange views on issues of regional and global importance, a statement said.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Starmer will attend the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai and deliver keynote addresses. The leaders will also engage with industry experts, policymakers and innovators.
The visit will build on the momentum and substance generated by the visit of Prime Minister Modi to the UK on 23–24 July 2025. It will provide a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the shared vision of India and the United Kingdom to build a forward-looking partnership, the statement added.
During PM Modi’s visit to the UK in July, the two nations had inked the landmark bilateral Free Trade Agreement, after three years of negotiations. PM Modi said that the outcomes of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement would benefit future generations and contribute to shared growth and prosperity.
The two leaders had also launched the ‘India-UK Vision 2035’, an ambitious roadmap to guide bilateral relations over the next decade. The roadmap focuses on collaboration across several sectors, including trade, defence, technology, and climate.
The two nations had also agreed on a new defence industrial roadmap to facilitate co-development and co-production of defence products during the visit. PM Modi had also called on the UK to take action against pro-Khalistani elements and sought cooperation on the extradition of economic fugitives from India.
