‘Ujjwala’ to be expanded to curb pollution from traditional cooking methods: Delhi CM

New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) In the backdrop of pollution levels in the national Capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to conduct a survey across slums and JJ clusters to know how many families still use conventional wood-fired stoves or traditional braziers.

According to the CM, such families will be provided cooking gas connections, cleaner cooking methods under the Ujjwala scheme, so that they do not have to use the older cooking methods, which will help prevent pollution.

Gupta said her government is working on a war footing to curb pollution in the city, and the teams are on ground, taking actions against sources of pollution.

She said work is also being done continuously to bring down the pollution at various hotspots in the city.

The CM said a list of families still dependent on traditional sources of cooking will be made and such people provided with cooking gas connections through Ujjwala scheme on a priority basis. It will free them from using wood, coal or any such fuels, she added.

She said officials have been told to monitor the pollution situation regularly. Strict instructions have been given to undertake cleaning and sprinkling of water through sprinklers and smog guns to prevent pollutants from spreading, especially in hotspot areas.
