Udit Raj accuses BJP of cancelling his ‘Save Constitution Rally’

New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Former MP Dr. Udit Raj has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of getting the Dalit organisation DOMA PariSangh’s event at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan cancelled.

Addressing the press on Saturday, Udit Raj said that a rally was to be held at Ramlila Maidan on November 30 to “save the Constitution and the vote”, but the BJP got it cancelled.

“We learned of this conspiracy only today,” said Udit Raj, National Chairman of the Confederation of Dalit, OBC, Minorities and Aadivasi Organizations (DOMA Parisangh).

He added that permission for the rally was cancelled following a complaint by Shashank Shekhar Tripathi, Coordinator of the BJP Legal Cell in the Kashi region.

His complaint referred to the slogan “Maha Rally – Our Vote, Our Right”, which he claimed was objectionable. The complaint alleged that the event would create social division, spread inflammatory messages, and that saying “the Constitution is in danger” is itself unconstitutional.

Udit Raj said that Delhi Police refused to grant the NOC, citing the possibility of a large crowd gathering.

“Our aim was, is, and will remain to save the Constitution and the vote,” he said.

“We have cancelled our rally and converted it into a programme where DOMA will take an oath to protect the Constitution at the statue of Ambedkar. We believe in the rule of law.”

Udit Raj said that the campaign to protect the Constitution cannot be abandoned. Therefore, it has been decided to take a pledge to save the Constitution at the statue of Ambedkar at Ambedkar Bhavan on Rani Jhansi Road, and that a large rally will definitely be held in the future.

Earlier, he had alleged that cancellation of the rally was because of a “conspiracy to create a Hindu nation”.
