New Delhi,.Oct 5 (UNI) About two lakh women across the country have taken the membership of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) in just twenty days, since the membership drive was launched on September 15.
Disclosing this here on Saturday, AIMC president Alka Lamba hoped that by the end of 2024, there will be 10 lakh more members in the organisation.
She said women across the country had shown a lot of enthusiasm towards becoming members of the Mahila Congress.
The Mahila Congress president also criticised the BJP government for denying many women the chance to become legislators in states like Haryana where the Assembly elections were being held.
She said, while the Women Reservation Bill had been passed, the BJP government deliberately delayed its implementation, thus denying the women of the country their rightful due of becoming the legislators.
Lamba attributed the success of the membership drive to the priority given to the “Nari Nyay” (justice for women) by the Congress party as part of its “Paanch Nyay” campaign.
She expressed confidence about the participation of women in Haryana elections and the Congress party getting maximum support.
She pointed out it was the Congress party which had supported the female wrestlers while they were fighting for justice. Besides, she pointed out, it was the Congress party which had given the party ticket to the Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat in Haryana.
