Toronto, (UNI) Canadian police have reported the back-to-back murders of two Indian nationals in Toronto, of Shivank Avasthi, 20, and Himanshi Khurana, 30.
The Toronto police said that officers responded on Tuesday, December 23, afternoon to a call of a person with serious injuries in the Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road area.
They found a male victim with a gunshot wound, who was “pronounced deceased on scene”. The suspect(s) fled the area prior to police arrival.
“The victim has been identified as Shivank Avasthi, 20, of Toronto. This is Toronto’s 41st Homicide of 2025,” the police said.
In the other case, police on Friday, December 19 at around 10:41 p.m., responded to a call for a missing person in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area.
On Saturday, December 20 at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers located the missing female deceased inside a residence.
“The death was classified as a homicide. Police said the victim and suspect were known to each other.
“The victim has been identified as Himanshi Khurana, 30, of Toronto. This is Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2025.”
Police are on the lookout for the suspect, identified as Abdul Ghafoori, 32, of Toronto. He is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder, it said.
The Indian Consulate General in Toronto said in a post on X: “We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Ms. Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. We extend our deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief. The Consulate has been in close touch with the matter over the past few days, and all possible assistance is being extended to the family in close coordination with local authorities.”
