New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Even as former US President Donald Trump has announced he will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to the US, there was no official confirmation of the same from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, answering questions at a special briefing on the PM’s upcoming US visit, said: “We are currently trying to schedule several meetings of Prime Minister, based on the time available for meetings. So, at this moment, I cannot specifically tell you whether meetings have been fixed or not. We are looking from all viewpoints, considering how much time we have and with whom the meetings can be arranged. As soon as any meetings with leaders are fixed, I will update you accordingly.”
PM Modi is to have a bilateral with US President Joe Biden on September 21, on the sidelines of the Quad summit in Delaware, confirmed the FS. However, he did not confirm any other bilateral meetings of the prime minister.
FS Misri said the PM will hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Quad, and also on September 22, and the day following. However, he declined to give any details, saying they are being worked out.
He said that bilateral meetings between PM Modi and his counterparts from Australia and Japan – Anthony Albanese and Fumio Kishida – are expected to be held.
On whether PM Modi will be meeting the Bangladesh Interim Government’s Chief Adviser Mohd Yunus, the FS said the schedule of bilateral meetings of PM Modi are being worked out.
