Washington/New Delhi, March 2 (UNI) US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned that military strikes on Iran would continue until all of Washington’s objectives were achieved, vowing to avenge the deaths of three American soldiers.
Trump’s remarks came amid a sharp escalation in hostilities after Iran launched missiles and drones targeting the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf states hosting US military bases. The Iranian action was described as retaliation for earlier joint attacks by the United States and Israel.
The US military said it has struck more than 1,000 targets inside Iran over the past 24 hours, following a major coordinated assault with Israel.
According to US officials, the joint strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with up to 40 senior political and military officials, dealing what Washington described as a decisive blow to Iran’s leadership structure.
The situation has raised fears of a wider regional conflict, with Gulf states placing their armed forces on high alert.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rang up his Israeli counterpart well past midnight and spoke to him about the situation.
Later Modi wrote on X, “Had a telephone call with PM Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities.”
