Trump urges Israel to maintain dialogue with Syria amidst regional tensions

New Delhi, (UNI) US President Donald Trump has expressed satisfaction with Syria’s progress under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, emphasizing the importance of Israel maintaining a strong dialogue with Syria.

Trump stated that the US is doing everything possible to support Syria’s development and praised his decision to lift “very strong and biting sanctions” on the country.

In a Truth Social post, Trump highlighted the historic opportunity for peace in the Middle East, citing Syria’s evolution into a prosperous state. He commended President al-Sharaa’s efforts to foster a long-term relationship between Syria and Israel. The US has been brokering talks between Israel and Syria, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussing regional peace agreements with Trump.

However, tensions remain, with Israel insisting on a demilitarized buffer zone in southern Syria. Trump’s comments come after an Israeli operation in southern Syria killed 13 people, drawing condemnation from Syria’s Foreign Ministry. The US has extended sanctions relief to Syria, and Trump has invited Netanyahu to the White House for further discussions.
