Washington, August 7 (UNI) The administration of US President Donald Trump will close two missions of American space agency NASA responsible for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions, the Newsmax broadcaster reported, citing the agency.
In a statement sent by email, NASA said that the missions are “beyond their prime mission” and being terminated “to align with the President’s agenda and budget priorities,” the report said on Wednesday.
President Donald Trump’s budget request for fiscal year 2026 does not include funding for orbital carbon observatories that can accurately track carbon dioxide emissions and absorption, as well as the health of agricultural crops, the report added.
In early July, Politico reported that more than 2,000 senior NASA employees could be cut due to the White House’s focus on cutting government spending. In late July, nearly 300 current and former NASA employees slammed the Trump administration for layoffs, federal violations, and undermining the agency’s missions.
