Trump threatens to sue Wall Street Journal over Epstein files

Washington, July18 (UNI) US President Donald Trump has threatened to sue The Wall Street Journal, its parent company, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch over a report linking him to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The threat follows a Wall Street Journal article claiming that Trump had allegedly sent a sexually suggestive letter to Epstein — a claim Trump has strongly denied, calling it a complete fabrication.

“Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to court approval. This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“The Wall Street Journal printed a FAKE letter, supposedly to Epstein. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures. I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam, that he shouldn’t print this Fake Story. But he did, and now I’m going to sue his ass off, and that of his third rate newspaper,” he posted on Truth Social.

Trump addressed the matter on his social media platform, stating that he had directed Attorney General Pam Bondi “to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval.” Bondi quickly responded on X , saying she was ready to do so by Friday. However, as CNN noted, obtaining judicial approval for the release could take significantly longer.

Epstein has been accused in several cases of sex trafficking young girls, ran in high-powered circles with figures that included Trump, former President Clinton, Britain’s Prince Andrew, and several other celebrities and ultrawealthy individuals. Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, has been convicted of sex trafficking.

The Wall Street Journal report also stated that a collection of birthday letters gifted to Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003 included a note bearing Trump’s name and an outline of a naked woman. Trump has categorically denied writing the letter and has vowed to take legal action against the publication.

Meanwhile, in Congress, Representatives Chip Roy and Ralph Norman, conservative members of the powerful House Rules Committee have declined to confirm whether Republican leadership had committed to bringing a full House vote on releasing Epstein-related materials.

The committee advanced a non-binding resolution calling for the release of the Epstein documents, following intense negotiations with GOP holdouts amid growing calls from Republican members for transparency.

However, there is currently no mechanism forcing the resolution to be brought to the floor. House Rules Chair Virginia Foxx said the timing of such a move would be “up to the Majority Leader.”

When pressed on whether House Speaker Mike Johnson or Majority Leader Steve Scalise had pledged to hold a vote, Roy said, “You have to talk to Mike and Steve about that. We just worked through the system here to get this through.”

Democrats attempted to strengthen the GOP resolution by converting it into a binding bill, but Republicans blocked the move.

Asked about the Wall Street Journal’s reporting on the alleged birthday letter and Trump’s denial of its authenticity, Roy responded, “If the president says it’s not real, then I’ll take the president’s word.”

Trump supporters have pushed for additional disclosures after the FBI and Justice Department last week stated Epstein did not have a client list and that his 2019 death at his New York City jail cell was a suicide. A number of prominent Trump supporters have for years pushed conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death and claims that a client list would reveal ties between Epstein and prominent Democrats.
