Trump may give go-ahead for Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine

Washington/ New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) US President Donald Trump said he may authorize providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Russia fails to agree to a settlement in its ongoing war with the country.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he may first speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin before making the decision. “I may say that the Tomahawk is an incredible weapon, a very offensive weapon. And honestly, Russia does not need that,” Trump said, referring to the long-range missiles capable of striking targets over 1,000 miles away.
Trump also held a telephonic call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. Zelensky later told Fox News that his country “needs long-distance capabilities” and confirmed that he and Trump are “working” on securing Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine.
If approved, the move would significantly enhance Kyiv’s ability to strike deep inside Russian territory.
The conflict, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, nears its fourth year despite renewed US-led efforts to broker peace.
Zelensky wrote on X that Moscow has launched over 3,100 drones, 1,360 glide bombs, and 92 missiles so far. He also said that a child was killed in a church bombing in Kostiantynivka on Saturday.
Following Israel and Hamas’ agreement to the first phase of a Trump administration peace proposal, both Zelensky and Putin have publicly praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts.
Zelensky said “surely other wars can be stopped as well,” while Putin told a summit of former Soviet republics in Tajikistan that Trump is “doing a lot to resolve such complex crises.”
Last month, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that Ukraine could still win the war and reclaim Russian-occupied territories.
Morover, a high-level Ukrainian delegation led by Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko will visit the United States this week for further talks.
